Cmdr. Mario Henrique De Oliveira photoCommander de Oliveira joined the Asia Pacific Center staff in August 2010 as an International Military Professor.  CDR de Oliveira most recently served as a Federal Military Judge for the Navy-Marine Corps Trial Judiciary, Southern Circuit.

A native of Brazil, CDR de Oliveira is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Florida International University, and a Juris Doctor Degree from Florida State University College of Law. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Florida and the Court of Military Appeals.

During his 18-year Naval career, CDR de Oliveira served primarily as an operational and international lawyer although his duties also included criminal law assignments such as defense counsel, trial counsel, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, and Regional Director of Military Justice.  His international law experience began at Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal where he served as International Legal Advisor and Labor Law Specialist to Commander, United States Forces, Azores.  His teaching experience included a position at the Naval Justice School Detachment, Norfolk where he served as Instructor, Officer-in-Charge, and head of Criminal Law and Evidence divisions.  He assumed duties as Operational Lawyer and Staff Judge Advocate to Commander, Carrier Group EIGHT aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT.  He deployed in a combat tour one week after September 11, 2001 as Strike Group JAG for multinational operations, interdictions, and counter-terrorism efforts against Al-Qaeda and Taliban Leadership.  He also completed an extended tour at Commander, United States Navy Forces South as Force Staff Judge Advocate and International Law Advisor for all operations in South America and the Caribbean.

CDR de Oliveira is awarded the Navy-Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (gold stars in Lieu of fourth award),  Navy Achievement Medal (gold Star in lieu of second award), Air Force Achievement Medal,  Global war on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Medal (second award), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Qualification Medals for the 9mm Pistol and the M-16 rifle.
