CSRT 06-2 Graduates from APCSS

HONOLULU –   In September, 35 military officers and civilian officials graduated from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies “Comprehensive Security Responses to Terrorism Course (CSRT)” in Honolulu.   The participants attending this three-week course were from 23 different countries.

    The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies is a Department of Defense regional study, conference and research center.  The Center’s mission is to provide a forum where current and future military and civilian leaders from Asia-Pacific nations gather to enhance security cooperation through executive education, professional exchange, and policy-relevant research.

      Participating in the CSRT course were representatives from Australia, Bangladesh, Botswana, Cambodia, Canada, Columbia, El Salvador, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United States and Vietnam.

   The “Comprehensive Security Responses to Terrorism” course is designed to build relationships between and among the United States and current and future counterterrorism practitioners of participating countries, to develop the trust and confidence necessary for increased information sharing, and to identify ways to reduce obstacles to cooperation in the international struggle against those who use terror to promote their goals.    

    To date, the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies has more than 2,700 Fellows, from around the world; attend the courses at the Center.  The Center has also hosted, or co-hosted, 112 conferences with more than 6,700 participants from 66 countries.

The APCSS addresses regional and global security issues, inviting military and civilian representatives of the United States and 45 Asia-Pacific nations to its comprehensive program of courses and conferences, both in Hawaii and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.  The Center supports the U.S. Pacific Command’s objective of developing professional and personal ties among national security establishments throughout the region.  APCSS focuses on a multilateral and multi-dimensional approach to defining and addressing regional security issues and concerns.  The most beneficial result is building relationships of trust and confidence among future leaders and decision-makers within the region.
