24 Graduate from Asia-Pacific Security Foundations Course

On Friday, 24 Fellows graduated from the most recent Junior Executive: Asia-Pacific Security Foundations course (JEC) from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu. 

Military and civilian participants from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Singapore, and the United States attended the two-week course designed to provide mid-level Asia-Pacific specialists with graduate- level instruction on trends and current issues shaping the Asia-Pacific security environment.  The course focuses on U.S. policy and provides an introduction to culture, politics, protocols and challenges of key countries in the region.  This rigorous program of lecture, study and discussion better equips graduating course Fellows with policy perspectives and tools important to their challenging career fields.

The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies is a Department of Defense regional study, conference and research center.  The Center’s mission is to provide a forum where current and future military and civilian leaders from Asia-Pacific nations gather to enhance security cooperation through executive education, professional exchange, and policy-relevant research.

To date, the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies has had representatives from 45 countries attend courses at the Center. The Center has also hosted or co-hosted conferences with nearly 6,600 participants from 66 countries.

The APCSS addresses regional and global security issues, inviting military and civilian representatives of the United States and 45 Asia-Pacific nations to its comprehensive program of courses and conferences, both in Hawaii and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.  The Center supports the U.S. Pacific Command’s objective of developing professional and personal ties among national security establishments throughout the region.  APCSS focuses on a multilateral and multi-dimensional approach to defining and addressing regional security issues and concerns.  The most beneficial result is building relationships of trust and confidence among future leaders and decision-makers within the region.
