Col. John Cinco, MD

Colonel John Cinco joined the academic staff of the College of Security Studies in August 2005.

He graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Cebu Doctors’ College of Medicine, Philippines, in 1983.  Colonel Cinco completed training in family medicine at the R L Thompson Strategic Hospital, Carswell AFB, Texas, in 1992 and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  He completed Air War College in 1999 and is a graduate of the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies Executive Course 05-2.

Following completion of a clinical internship, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1985.  He has since served as flight commander of Emergency Services, Flight Medicine Clinic, and Primary Care Services.  Colonel Cinco also served as the squadron medical element of the 345th Fighter Squadron, commander of the 314th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Chief of Aerospace Medicine of the 43rd Medical Group, deputy commander of the 4th Medical Group, and commander of the 486th Expeditionary Medical Group. 

From 1998 to 2002, he was assigned to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s John F. Kennedy Space Center as the Department of Defense Aeromedical Liaison, and supported 19 space shuttle missions including John Glenn’s return to space and construction of the International Space Station.  While at NASA he led the bioterrorism security program. 

Colonel Cinco has deployed multiple times to various locations in support of Operations Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  He has over 900 flying hours in various airframes including the T-38, F-15E, C-17, C-130, UH-1 and UH-60 and wears the Chief Flight Surgeon badge.

Colonel Cinco is Division Chief, International Health Affairs, Pacific Air Forces.  He leads a team of 8 international health specialists that provides healthcare support to 43 countries and territories in the U.S. Pacific Command theater in support of the Theater Security Cooperation Plan.
