Major Daniel Hall, a Korea and Northeast Asia regional affairs strategist and career Space and Missile officer, joined the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in January 2009. He is currently serving as Deputy Chief in the Trends Analysis Program which is focused on identifying, tracking, and reporting on non-defense related trends of interest in the Asia-Pacific region with potential strategic security implications. He has served in a variety of command and control, space and missile operations and staff positions at the squadron, group, wing, and unified combatant command levels.

From May 2004 to August 2006, assigned to the 56th Air and Space Operations Squadron, Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, Maj Hall served as Chief, Theater Missile Defense, where he was responsible for all missile defense operations for the Pacific AOR including early missile warning, active defense, and attack operations in coordination with the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command on all missile defense operations in support of U.S. Pacific Command.

From May 2003 to May 2004, he served as the Chief of Passive Defense for the Korean Theater of Operations. He was responsible for ensuring the war fighters would have near-real time missile defense information to command wartime operations. He also served as the advisor to the Air Component Command/Commander on readiness of passive defense systems to mitigate the North Korean missile threat.

From January 2002 to May 2003, Maj Hall served as the Executive Officer to the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, CJ3, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Command Korea. He was responsible for coordinating actions and providing assistance and administrative support to sixteen combined and multi-service divisions totaling over 600 military and civilian personnel.

Maj Hall’s first assignment was to 91st Missile Wing, 741st Missile Squadron, Minot, North Dakota where he served as a Missile Combat Crew Officer from September 1995 to September 1999. As a Missile Combat Crew Commander, Maj Hall was responsible for controlling 10 on-alert operational intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) and assisted in status monitoring of 15 launch control centers and 150 ICBMs as a critical part of our national strategic deterrence. He earned his commission in January 1995 through the U.S. Air Force’s Officer Training School, Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Alabama.

He graduated from University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts dual degree in Business and Economics (1992) and holds a Master of Arts in general administration from Central Michigan University (1999). He also holds a Master of Arts degree in national security affairs from the Naval Post-graduate School in Monterey, CA (2008). He also graduated from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California where he learned Korean.
