Colonel Stephen Myers
joined the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in January 2010
as a Military Professor. He recently completed a yearlong deployment
with the 25th Infantry Division in support of Operation Iraq Freedom
in Mosul, Iraq. During this deployment he served as the Deputy
Commanding Officer for the division’s Command Post - North where he
worked to synchronize all military and interagency security and
stability efforts across Ninewa Province and the Kurdish Region of
Northern Iraq.
His experience in the Asia-Pacific region includes serving as the
commander of 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery, 2nd Stryker
Brigade Combat Team, assigned to the 25th Infantry Division at
Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Chief of the Training and Doctrine
Command Transformation Cell for Hawaii, and as the Chief of the
Joint Training Division for the U.S. Pacific Command at Camp Smith,
Hawaii. He has also served on the staff and faculty at the United
States Military Academy as a Professor in the Geography and
Environmental Engineering Department. His Army assignments have
included tours in the Republic of Korea, Georgia, Washington, and
Hawaii as a Direct Support Artilleryman.
COL Myers holds a bachelor of science degree in Geography from the
United States Military Academy and a master’s of science degree in
Earth Science from Montana State University. His academic interests
include Civil – Military Operations, Stability and Reconstruction
Operations and Land use Planning and Policy. He is a graduate of the
Field Artillery Officers Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms
Services Staff School, and the Command and General Staff College.
His military awards and decorations include the Defense Superior
Service Medal,
Bronze Star Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, five Army
Commendation Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal,
Korean Defense Service Medal, Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault
Badge.
